About The Workshop
We love telling stories in improv, and often enough we remind ourselves of the different roles we occupy: actor, author and director. But what if we explored also the other roles available to us?
In this workshop and like in a French kitchen, we will shard the responsibilities to create an coherent and impactful improvised story: main and secondary characters, set manager, special effect department, sound improviser, light technician, etc. We will learn to focus on one of these roles only, and then rotate positions, to create fantastic improvised stories out of this beautiful collaboration! Learn to embrace being the main character without having to worry about bringing your own chair on stage, craft the perfect musical moment to heighten this epic action scene, unleash your flamboyance as this funny side-kick supporting the narrative thread of the story, and so much more!
About Gael Doorneweerd-Perry
Gael has been doing improv for over 15 years, starting in Strasbourg and now in Amsterdam. He's the co-founder of Flock Theatre, Anananas & Pampamplemousse (formerly La Carpe Haute), the SIN (a network of improvisers across Europe), and Safe Play, a community focused on creating a safer improv environment. After leading IMPRO Amsterdam, he's now the co-Artistic Director of Improfestival Karlsruhe and the Flock Festival in Amsterdam.
Gael loves teaching and performing around the world, often with his partner on and off stage, Laura Doorneweerd-Perry. They toured with their show "Object of Affection" before settling in Amsterdam to launch Flock Theatre, where they produce unscripted theatre and collaborate with other artists.
His latest projects include fun and unique duo shows with Diego Ingold, Inbal Lori, and Katy Schutte. Gael’s improv style is playful and heartfelt, blending physicality, kindness, and a dash of craziness.
